Anderson Knight had the opportunity to parter with USD 383 to design an addition and renovation to the existing 1983 school and a master plan for future classrooms. The client desired us to create a concept to provide a secure front entrance, separate the cafeteria and gym, create a Fine Arts center, develop a dedicated Special Education area, and to re-organize the classrooms.
We designed this building in partnership with the school district and community, holding public meetings for gathering input and ideas, creating a building committee to analyze concerns, materials and systems, and meeting with user-groups to gather design input.
Upon completion AKA was able to accomplish all the original goals as well as the inclusion of an administration addition, a gym addition, and 12,000 s.f. of classrooms, with a storm shelter, high performance glazing, and low VOC interior finishes.
